Prismo Help

Support for Prismo on macOS

Prismo is a local-first macOS generative visuals app built around a control window, a separate canvas window, and Settings. This page covers the fastest way to reach support, common troubleshooting topics, permission guidance, and the details that make bug reports actionable.

Common Topics

Troubleshooting people most often ask about

Start here before sending a report. These topics cover the most likely setup issues for permissions, windows, capture sources, and the required OpenAI-backed remixing flow.

Canvas or control windows feel out of sync
Canvas or control windows feel out of sync
Prismo uses a control window, a separate canvas window, and Settings, so macOS window placement matters.
  • Check other displays or Spaces first if the canvas seems missing.
  • Make sure you are looking at the correct window for controls versus the live canvas.
  • If window placement looks stale after a display change, relaunch Prismo and reopen your scene.
Local media folders are unavailable
Local media folders are unavailable
Folder access is only needed when you explicitly point a scene at local media or My Visuals content.
  • Re-select the folder in Prismo if files moved, the drive was remounted, or the folder path changed.
  • If the media lives on external storage, confirm the drive is mounted before reopening the scene.
  • After granting or re-granting access, retry the scene input so macOS refreshes the available files.
Audio-reactive visuals are not responding
Audio-reactive visuals are not responding
Microphone input and app or system audio capture can require different macOS permissions.
  • For microphone-driven visuals, confirm Prismo has Microphone permission.
  • If you enable app or system audio capture, macOS may also require Screen and System Audio Recording permission before Prismo can browse or capture app audio.
  • After granting access, retry the input source so macOS refreshes the available devices.
Photos will not import or saves do not appear
Photos will not import or saves do not appear
Prismo only touches your photo library when you choose photos for visuals or ask it to save a capture.
  • Check Photos access in System Settings if importing still fails.
  • If a save-to-Photos action does not complete, verify Prismo can add to your library.
  • Keep source media local if you are testing with private material and only share it when support asks.
Assistant-guided creation or a scene is misbehaving
Assistant-guided creation or a scene is misbehaving
Prismo's assistant-led remixing flow depends on scene configuration and OpenAI access, and isolating the exact path helps support reproduce the issue.
  • Note which scene or visual lane was active when the issue happened.
  • Confirm whether OpenAI account sign-in was connected and whether that OpenAI subscription was active.
  • If the problem is scene-specific, include the prompt or content only if you are comfortable sharing it.

Permissions Help

What Prismo asks for and why

Prismo requests access only for the feature you choose to use. If a permission changes while the app is open, retry the feature after granting access so macOS can refresh the available devices, folders, and libraries.

Bug report
What to send with a bug report
Good reports shorten turnaround time by making the issue reproducible on the first pass.
  • Your Prismo app version and macOS version.
  • Which scene and input mode were active: assistant, audio-reactive, photos, local folders, or app/system audio capture.
  • Whether the issue happened in the control window, the canvas window, or Settings.
  • The exact steps needed to reproduce the issue from a clean launch if possible.
  • Whether macOS permissions for Folder access, Microphone, Photos, or Screen and System Audio Recording were granted.
  • A screenshot, short screen recording, or crash report if one is available.
OpenAI connection
OpenAI connection
OpenAI account sign-in and an active OpenAI subscription are required for Prismo's core remixing workflow.

Prismo depends on OpenAI account sign-in for remixing and scene-combination workflows. When you contact support, note whether the account was connected and whether the OpenAI subscription was active.

Prompts and related account handoff are processed after you complete OpenAI account sign-in in your browser and trigger one of those workflows.
